Koning Corporation of Rochester, New York had already developed a new breast CT product and had been granted pre-market approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) when they were introduced to PDSI. Koning wanted to tailor the product for the marketplace by reducing cost, size and power consumption, while sharpening the product aesthetics and maintaining their regulatory approval. PDSI worked with Koning to modify the product design to accomplish all of the design goals while requiring only a supplement for the FDA pre-market approval. PDSI will now be a manufacturing and sustaining partner for Koning and produce all of the scanners sold in the western markets, while Koning supplies the Asia pacific market from their factory in China.
